USB Usage & the Claimed 20,000 Track Memory

Hello everyone. I am hoping someone can help me here. Does anyone know how to download tunes from a USB stick into the E70's hard drive? I have been able to play the songs using the Aux/USB function; however, I am unable to access these songs after removing the USB stick. Hopefully someone has some experience here.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

i don't think there is such a hard drive... i believe you play directly from the device you plug in...

nothing gets stored...

I don't beleive that you can download to a "hard drive".

Please see attached screenshot

Based on what I have seen in the manual it is possible to download the tracks from up to 5 USB sticks or 20,000 songs. I have attached a screenshot of the manual for your reference. I could however be reading it incorrectly and they are referring to downloading the information about each of up to 20,000 tracks for easy reference.

I believe that it is referring to the File Headers rather than the transfer of the data itself. If so, it is an automatic function a bit like the download of the address book from your phone via bluetooth.

Disapointed me a bit too .. My wife has a Mitsubishi Outlander that has built in hard drive, blue tooth voice control, sun roof, super Hifi, Rear DVD .. TOUCH SCREEN I might add.... etc etc for half of what my X cost I know theres no comparison for the car , but BM make a big deal of what these extras cost

I was surprised to find that such an inexpensive and useful device would not be included as an option for BMW. Well you win some you lose some. Wish my X had some of the features you mentioned above. Oh well.

It is an appreciated feature of the Pioneer Avic Z2 that I installed in my truck. I have a horrible habit of not taking good care of my CD's. With the HDD, I can purchase a new CD, immediately rip it to the HDD, then put the disc up in a safe place, in case I ever need it again.

I'm really glad this post came up. As I've been trying to figure out why my GF's Iphone doesn't work any more. At least, I guess after she re-synced it...The Nav screen just sits with "Updating Data" or the likes...This would explain it, and tells me that I should let it sit longer. Well...hopefully.

Talking about things that have come about as a result of this post. Last night I used ITUNES and made a MP3 DVD using a blank DVD disk. As a result I was able to place about 1200 tracks onto the DVD. This DVD worked in both the SATNAV DVD drive along with the DVD drive for the rear entertainment system. It takes a little while to get going, but once it does it works wonderfully. The only problem with using the SATNAV drive of course is the inability to use the SATNAV features while you play the MP3 DVD.
