Anyone using the BMW Bluetooth Upgrade Module with their X5 equipped with the CPT9000 integrated phone system? (BMW Part # 84 11 0 410 145)

This looks like a klugey albeit pretty darn cool way to incorporate Bluetooth into the existing CPT9000 phone system. Comments and thoughts?

Agreed...kinda like a Win/Win IF it would work in a CPT9000-equipped X5. I hate being the guinea pig. Anyone try this yet?

Works like a charm.

Only problem is that it doesn't turn off when the car does - which means my phone remains paired with the X until I'm out of range. Not a huge deal, but it's a little annoying at times.

Frank - Thanks for the review. That's exactly what I was looking for.

And Frank, I feel your pain about the M3...I sold mine in December 2004 and still regret it. Avus Blue is the only blue I have ever liked on a sporting car, and it was just perfect on the M3. Great car.

When European Car Magazine debuted the M3 in their (I think) March 1993 edition, it was an Avus Blue M3 with Dove Grey leather and LTW wheels. It was love at first sight. I had to wait a couple of years, but I eventually bought her new in 10/95.

The decision to sell her was a tough one for me. I rarely drove her and she wasn't garaged so 90% of the time she was just a car cover with wheels peaking out. I finally decided that she should be owned by someone who had more time to appreciate her - that's why I sold her. She's now owned by a kid who's a total BMW nut and who comes from a BMW family (the family now has 5 BMW's including 3 M3's) so that part of it's cool, I guess.

I'm not sure I "regret" selling her since I still think it was the right thing to do - but I still miss her.

The part that REALLY sucks is that there's another Avus Blue M3 that parks in my parking garage at the office and I get to drive by it EVERY morning on the way to my parking space.

Sorry about the unsolicited reminiscing, it's apparently part of the grieving process

I have an X5 4.4i 2001, I do have the CPT9000 system but no phone... I never had it from the dealer. What would be the best thing to do here? Should I get the phone from dealer and if I do what do I do after that? Or should I just get this upgrade you guys are talking about? Help!!!

If you want bluetooth, the cheapest/quickest way for you to get it is the BTUM. The CPT 9000 is a POS imo

I just bought one from Westchester BMW in NY and it should be here this week. I'll report back once I get it.

Based on everything I've researched and read, this is the 1) highest return 2) lowest cost 3) Bluetooth-upgrade solution available for a 4) CPT9000-equipped car without Navigation. I spent $235 on it shipped, and with it I get full use (based on the BMW phone compatability list that SuperGreg maintains) of all the BMW X5 CPT phone functions, i.e. steering wheel controls, dash controls, etc. The only drawback is that the phone cannot be charged in the holder or use the BMW antenna. Fair enough. I can live with that.

Now I just need to get my cellphone buddy to finally get me the V3 Razr he's been promising me for four months!

For a Business CD equipped vehicle - this is not a bad alternative.

I would not get this for NAV-equipped vehicles however. The benefits of voice activation on the Bluetooth retrofit kits (5th Generation) make the retrofit well worth it.
