Geez I hope I'm not been ripped off with my Nav system I'm expecting soon!!

What do you mean you didn't get a disc? Was it sent or downloaded electronically by you at purchase or am I misunderstanding you?

If you got in soft copy did you try saving to CD rather than DVD you may have shot DVD laser as your saying its reading your other CD's ok.

I've read regularly here that the Australian Maps are all on on CD not DVD for this range of NAV's (ie MK1 - MK4) so not sure what they've sent you.

I am sure you will be right. There is nothing wrong with the nav system but because I decided to go new mine came from the UK. It was built only a couple of months ago. The nav unit itself didn't have an operating system on it because it was new. A disc came with the unit that put v31 as the OS.

A map of Europe was no good to me so I told the guy to keep his map and I went looking for a local copy. Whereis / Sensis are the people that do all navigation discs in Australia. v14 has been suspended pending the release of v15 for most systems and as far as I can make out that covers the BMW discs as well although you would still be able to get v14 from a dealership.

It’s listed on the BMW website under accessories I think for $330 odd

I assume you are referring to burnt copies of discs. I don’t know enough to go there.

My CD works ok so I will stick to that for the time being, it’s just terribly out of date.

In my ignorance I thought there was only one map of Australia or I should say one BMW DVD map format for this country but that appears to be wrong. There appears to be three (at least)

Turns out my research was flawed so don’t make the same mistake I made. Down $260 and I don't have a disc.
Yes there are three Australian disks. The red disk is the CD for the MKI,II & III. The green disk is the DVD for the MKIV and the purple disk is for the current models E90 etc. I too have just updated my MKIII to a MKIV and am running red V14 CD in the drive which I bought a few months ago from the dealer. I think I will probably wait until V16 comes out as I lodged a few anomalie reports off the BMW web site, a couple will be fix in V15 but most will be addressed in V16 according to the feedback I got from BMW.

I hate to ask but would you mind taking a photo of the disc and posting it up please or is there a name on the disc that distinguishes it from the others.

I have a green disc and that never worked but it was a radio green disc which doesn't work in the MK4 (I think). I think I need a non radio green disc or your red disc. What did you ask your dealer for?

The reason is that my dealership is having trouble coming to grips with my modification in that all they seem to be hung up on is the chassis number.

I have tired whereis and they are hopeless as well.

Even though we don’t need the DVD to cover Australia I am led to believe the DVD version is faster. Would this be right?

The colour and part number distinguishes it. The part number is the same for each version, so if you have version 10 red the part number is 888.... and this part number is the same for V14.

Here is a photo

What colour disk have you got at the moment and what version is it?

I have a green V14 DVD disc that doesn't work in my MK4.

I was told provided it was green it should work but I didn't know about this radio version which is also green. There must be at least two green versions of the DVD.

I have seen people in Europe and the US refer to theirs as hi or High versions but I received a blank query when I mentioned this for our versions.

Anyway I ended up with the wrong version and lost money getting rid of it.

I think I have gone about this all wrong and should just get a CD disc like you have. I bet there is no radio version of the red CD disc!.

Do you mind telling me how much your disc cost?

Ok, well then I think you are right in saying that you need the red CD. I tried to find out the differences between the three and the dealer couldn't tell me. I do know that the purple is for the current shape cars, not the E46 or X5. If the green doesn't work and the purple certainly won't then you need the red CD.

Where are you located in Aus?

I stand corrected on the purple disk, it suits:
E87 1 series
E90/1/2/3 3 series
E60/1 5 series
E63/4 6 series

The red disk suits:

E36 Z3
E85/6 Z4
E39 5 series
E53 X5
E38, E65, E66 7 series
Mini R50/2/3

You have been able to do what my dealership couldn't and what whereis refuse to.

So can I assume there is a red DVD as well as a Red CD?

oh and how much can I expect to pay for this red disc?

Many thanks
