I have the same problem too. Sometimes its just fine and sometimes it loses the color. Mine is also 2005 4.8is.

I removed the navigation screen panel last night and cleaned the contacts and the colors are back again. Thanks to all the posts here suggesting this....

Glad you were able to get yours fixed! I have a similar problem in that mine won't change colors (stuck on color # 2). Haven't gotten any responses on my post either

When you say lost colour does it all go a greeney colour and no blue? If so follow me a DIY over on the m5board :-) will cost you an hour and a pencil :-)

Well, was installing the aux input I made this weekend and had the nav unit out, so I took the ribbon cables out and re-seated them. So far the blue color has stayed. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the tip!
