The TempurPedic mattresses seem pretty cool from what I've felt at Brookstone. Pricey, though.
It really is personal preference in the end..

Just bought a Tempur Pedic bed 3 months ago. Pricey but worth it if a regular mattress just doesn't suit you. My lower back pain stopped and hasn't returned since we bought the bed.
Try it out in the store first. It's not for everyone.

I tried out the Tempur Pedic in the store, but felt it was too stiff. If you are the type of person who gets comfortable and then stays in one place when you are sleeping, then it may be good for you. But the problem is that the memory foam is very stiff and feels hard when you move around. It takes about 5 seconds for the foam to adjust to your body, so for that first couple of seconds after any movement, you feel like you are laying on a hard floor covered with a blanket. Then after a few seconds, it softens up and forms the shape around your body. I am a rather restless sleeper & I move around a lot, and I felt it would just be too uncomfortable.
What I ended up getting is a Latex matress. Sealy makes a line called "Reflexion". It feels more like a regular matress, but has the back support of the memory foam. And they have several different versions, from the very soft one with the pillow top to the basic one without the pillow top. I'd definately recommend this kind of mattress.

I have a TemperPedic pillow that I like a lot, so when I went mattress shopping a few month ago I'd figured I try the TemperPedic one. However, the material didn't do it for me for 2 reasons: 1) it makes you sweat. I get hot rather easy and the pillow I have makes my neck and shoulder area sweat, and the salesman told me it will do the same all over your body. 2) its hard to get out of bed and/or roll around. the material contours so much that it makes doing these things a little difficult. thus its not condusive to wild sex!!!

I want one of those Craftmatic beds you see the old people use on TV. Though I wonder how many flip out and fold you in half.

G,
We had to buy a new mattress set for this FLA starter shack, last season: we literally spent hours of several days visiting mattress joints and laying down for 3-5 mins on dozens of mattresses...it was a fookin drag and after awhile one quickly realizes what one does not like, but it becomes very difficult to narrow down the "keepers". We finally spent a bundle on a Prana set: http://www.pranasleep.com/home.html It is very comfortable and one of the better racks I've spent time in. There are lots of top grade rack sets out there and most have bs reasons why this is better than that. It's a freakin jungle. I always love Jamison (sp?) brand because I spent 100+ nights a yr for 20+ yrs in Marriotts and they had 'em. But, the Prana was/seemed "better". It is a lil' bit "warm" for me, but the Tempurpedics, Pranas and that ilk are "warmer" as their main material tends to hold bod heat in the "molding to shape" process when one lies down. Go try some out: don't be embarrased and screw 'em. Here in SW FL, City Mattress is the Titz, because they have so many brands and occasionally, good sales. But, for one of us to sell you a rack set, is like rec'd a CD of hits: tastes are really gonna vary. GL,mD City Mattress: http://www.citymattress.com/findus.html

Watching this post VERY closely...been hitting a few rack shops myself in the past few weeks. Looking at Stearns and Foster after finding a real nice one that fits both myself and Mrs. D8.

thanks for the replies.... I'm in agreement that it's a very personal choice, I think I'm more looking to see if there are brands that are better quality than others or any that are complete sh*t and I should stay away from them. Haven't bought a new mattress/box spring in about 7 years and I'm not really up on the latest greatest...
Thanks again for the replies....
