Born before 1945???
Although it was written for all those born before 1945, I am sure all of you will enjoy it. We are the survivors!!!!!!!!! Consider the changes we have witnessed: We were born before television, before penicillin, before polio shots, frozen foods, xerox, plastics, contact lenses, frisbees and the pill. We were born before radar, credit cards, split atoms, laser beams and ballpoint pens, before pantyhose, dishwashers, clothes dryers and before man walked on the moon. We got married first and then had children. How quaint can we be? In our time, closets were for clothes, not for "coming out of". Bunnies were small rabbits and rabbits were not volkswagons. Designer jeans were scheming girls name Jean or Jeanne, and having a meaningful relationship meant getting along well with our cousins. We were born before house-husbands, gay rights and computer marriages. We were born before day-care centers and nursing homes. We never heard of FM Radio, Tape Decks, Electric typewriters, artificial hearts, word processors, yogurt and guys wearing earrings. For us time-sharing meant togetherness- not computers or condominiums; a "CHIP" meant a piece of wood, hardware meant hardware and software wasn't a word. In 1948, "Made in Japan" meant a piece of junk, and the term "Making out" referred to how you did on your exam; pizzas, Mcdonald's and Instant coffee were unheard of. In our day, cigarette smoking was fashionable, GRASS was mowed, COKE was a drink, and POT was something you cooked in . Rock music was a grandma's lullaby and AIDS were helpers in the principal's office. We were certainly not before the difference between the sexes was discovered, but we were surely before the sex changes; we made do with what we had and we were the last generation that was so dumb as to think you needed a husband to have a baby. NO wonder we are so confused and there is such a generation gap today. BUT WE SURVIVED!!!!!!!!

Good Read, QwkAG...I don't think there are many here born before the end of WWII, ;>)
I arrived in 1947, but all that stuff is post-then, too. I remember going down my street and knocking on doors to ask neighbors if they had a "television set" and if so, could I look at for a minute. BR,md [email protected]

I really liked reading this. Although I was born in 1959 I can relate to a lot of this. My parents always had TV but back in the 60's in France we only had one channel and that was it. When we turned the TV it took it about 1 mn or so before anything went on and then we got a flash in the eyes like if somebody was taking a picture of you. Amoung other things I was fan of some already old american series like "Roy Rogers" or "Wanted: Dead or Alive" with Steve Mcqueen. When channel 2 came out in 1968 that was quite a big event. The first color TV my parents could afford was in 1972. I was 13 and I will always remember looking at the rubgy 5 nations tournament in color for the very first time. I was actually a pretty lucky kid because at that time few people had color TV in our neighborhood.

I never realized that some of these inventions/discoveries are as young as they are...interesting. However, out of that list, and more, what we now do take for granted, are still things that many people in the same world that we live in, struggle for. We must all be thankful that we have been blessed with the comforts we have.
Thanks for the good read |
